Nelson Velasquez has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. (Chicago Cubs on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
This comes as a bit of a surprise as Velasquez had a chance to be the Opening Day right fielder for the Cubs with the injury to Seiya Suzuki. Velasquez played for team Puerto Rico in the WBC and only had 20 at-bats for the Cubs this Spring, so the Cubs may be wanting to get him some more work before playing in a real game. He slashed .205/.286/.373 in 2022.
