Matt Brash blows the save Sunday

by Ari Koslow | Mariners Correspondent | Mon, Apr 10th 1:54am EDT

Matt Brash blew a save opportunity on Sunday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on two hits across one inning to go along with three strikeouts and one walk.

Fantasy Impact:

With Andres Munoz (shoulder) placed on the IL Sunday morning and Paul Sewald having pitched the previous two days, Brash earned the nod looking to hold onto a 3-1 Mariners lead. He had pitched well early in the season entering Sunday, but didn't have his best control against Cleveland walking Josh Naylor and allowing a single to Andres Gimenez. He struck out Josh Bell for the second out, but Will Brennan laced a two-run double to tie the game. It was a little unlucky as Teoscar Hernandez got turned around in right field, but Brash also fell behind 2-0 in the count and threw a slider over the plate. Sewald should remain the primary closer for the Mariners, but Brash is still going to see high leverage opportunities. He is well worth rostering in leagues that favor both saves and holds.
