AJ Smith-Shawver's outing Thursday against the Nationals ended early, as he did not factor into the decision after allowing seven runs over three-plus innings. He yielded eight hits and three walks while recording only one strikeout. A bases-clearing double by James Wood in the second inning contributed to the four runs Smith-Shawver allowed in that frame, following one run in the first. He was removed during an at-bat in the fourth after issuing a leadoff walk.
Fantasy Impact:
The 22-year-old right-hander now carries a 3.67 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through 41.2 innings pitched this season (eight starts). His K:BB ratio stands at 41:20. Smith-Shawver's next scheduled start is against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
