Jorge Mateo has signed a one-year major league contract with the Atlanta Braves per multiple sources. Details of the contract have not been revealed, but the Braves had an open spot on their 40-man roster so a corresponding move is not needed. (Francys Romero on X)
Fantasy Impact:
The utility infielder has played parts of six seasons in the majors and is a career .221 hitter across 1,411 plate appearances with the Padres and Orioles. Mateo does have a little pop and above average speed as evidenced by 20 home runs and 67 stolen bases in 883 plate appearances with Baltimore between 2022 and 2023. Last season, Mateo batted just .177 with the Orioles in 83 plate appearances, striking out 30 times. However, he did steal 15 bases in just 42 games. Mateo will likely have a bench role in Atlanta and can fill in at second or short as needed.
