by Bruno Mulé | Mets Correspondent | Tue, Mar 17th 10:52am EDT

Melendez signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with New York in February after the Royals non-tendered him to open the offseason. He went 4-for-11 with two home runs in four spring games with the Mets but struggled at the World Baseball Classic with Team Puerto Rico, going 0-for-4 with two walks and two strikeouts. Fantasy Impact:

With Juan Soto, Luis Robert, Carson Benge, and Tyrone Taylor occupying the top four outfield spots, Melendez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse Tuesday and figures to be a depth option for the Mets later in the season.
