Shane McClanahan makes first start in 972 days

by Nicholas Rodriguez | Rays Correspondent | Wed, Apr 1st 4:08am EDT

Shane McClanahan allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 4.2 innings in Tuesday's 6-2 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Impact:

McClanahan returned to the mound after a 972-day absence. He underwent a second Tommy John surgery that ended his 2023 season and sidelined him for all of 2024, then dealt with a nerve issue in his left triceps that further delayed his return. Despite the long layoff, he showed plenty of promise in his first start back, retiring 12 of the first 13 batters he faced and carrying a no-hitter into the fifth inning before running into trouble and allowing two earned runs. Regardless, it was an encouraging outing, and his fastball touched 97.4 mph. He is scheduled to make his next start on Monday against the Chicago Cubs.
