Brayan Bello allows six runs in 2026 opener
by Bruno Mulé | Red Sox Correspondent | Wed, Apr 1st 11:13am EDT
Bello posted a career-best 3.35 ERA across 29 starts in 2025, though his 4.19 FIP suggested some regression risk. He carried a 5.65 ERA out of spring training into Tuesday's regular-season opener against Houston, where Yordan Alvarez took him deep in the fifth and four of the next five Astros reached base to end his outing.
Fantasy Impact:
Bello took the loss, allowing six runs — five earned — on eight hits and three walks while striking out two across 4.2 innings. Payton Tolle, Johan Oviedo, Kutter Crawford (wrist), and Patrick Sandoval (elbow) are among the other starting candidates in Boston once healthy. Bello's next start is scheduled for Monday against Milwaukee.
