Randal Grichuk elects free agency
by David Leisering | Sat, May 2nd 10:53am EDT
Randal Grichuk has elected free agency in lieu of accepting his outright assignment by the New York Yankees. (New York Yankees on X)
Fantasy Impact:
Grichuk's brief tenure in New York is over as he chose free agency over staying with the Yankees' organization after he was designated for assignment earlier this week. Grichuk signed a minor league deal with the Yankees as they were hoping he would be a solid right-handed complement to their lefty-heavy lineup. However, Grichuk batted just .194 with two RBI in 33 plate appearances and hit only .227 against left-handed pitching. Grichuk is now free to sign elsewhere and will come cheaper than if he was claimed off waivers. He is a career .250 hitter with 212 home runs in 1,376 big league games.
