Ryan Johnson fires six scoreless in best start of career Tuesday

by David Leisering | Angels Correspondent | Wed, Jun 24th 7:09am EDT

Ryan Johnson allowed one hit and one walk while striking out a career-high eight over six scoreless innings on Tuesday, helping the Angels to a 5-1 win over the Orioles.

Fantasy Impact:

Johnson took a no-hitter into the sixth before Jeremiah Jackson singled back up the middle with one out in the inning. Johnson promptly got Taylor Ward to hit into a double play to end the inning - and his outing. Johnson entered Tuesday's contest having allowing 11 runs on 15 hits and a 4:5 K:BB ratio over 8.1 innings in his first two starts. The young righthander is now 1-2 with a 6.91 ERA in the first three starts of his big league career. He has also made three relief appearances this season and has a 14.40 ERA in those outings. Johnson likely earned himself another shot in the rotation, which would be lined up for early next week against the Rangers.
