Evan Gattis drives in a pair of runs Saturday

by James Ignatius Zeankowski | Sun, Oct 2nd 1:22am EDT

Getting another start at catcher during Saturday evening's 3-0 shutout victory over the Los Angeles Angels, Evan Gattis went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles, each tallying a RBI to get 72 of those to go with his record breaking and club leading 32 home runs on the year. He also had a pair of ground outs and a pop out in the game. Gattis finishes 2016 strong, with a .251 average and single season career highs in both OBP of .319 and an OPS of .827 on the season. Aside from these, Gattis has also set career highs for walk rate in 2016 of 8.7% and 3.85 P/PA (pitches per plate appearance) to be much sharper and disciplined on offense overall. 2 stolen bases also add to Gattis' record breaking 2016.

Fantasy Impact:

Skipper A.J. Hinch announced in post game interviews that Gattis would not play in tomorrow afternoon's season finale in Anaheim. This is bittersweet in the sense that while El Oso Blanco won't play, he still finishes 2016 a lot stronger than he began it. His last 7 day slash line is .348/.375/.609. His September slash line, along with being the 3rd Astros player in team history with double digit home runs in that particular month next to Richard Hidalgo and Lance Berkman, is .264/.317/.604. Finally, his second half slash line is .288/.358/.594 since the All Star Break. In advanced stats, El Oso Blanco posted a 2016 wRC+ of 119, 20 more than last season, and a 2016 WAR of 3.0. Defensively, Gattis also posted a career high caught stealing ratio of 46% of base runners and an overall catcher ERA of 3.45. With all of this in mind, fantasy owners will certainly want to stock up high on top 10 consensus ranked catcher, Evan Gattis for 2017!
