Austin Gomber has signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves. He was released by the Texas Rangers on their minor league pact earlier in the day.

Gomber signed a minor league deal with the Rangers in January and was expected to compete for the fifth starter job. However, the spot went to Kumar Rocker and Gomber has spent the season at Triple-A Round Rock where he went 0-5 with a 7.75 ERA in nine appearances. He has pitched in parts of seven seasons with the Cardinals and Rockies, posting a 5.08 ERA with 539 strikeouts in 705.2 innings. He'll likely report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Gomber, a fourth round pick by the Cardinals in 2014, has pitched parts of seven seasons with the Cardinals and Rockies. After posting a 3.72 ERA in two seasons with St. Louis, Gomber had a 5.31 ERA in five seasons with Colorado. Last year, however, the lefthander suffered through a disastrous season as he was limited to 12 starts and went 0-7 with a 7.49 ERA and allowed 82 hits in just 57.2 innings. Gomber will be battling for the final spot in the Rangers' rotation during the spring.
