Austin Gomber crushed for five runs by Mets Sunday

Austin Gomber allowed five earned runs in 2.1 innings in the Cardinals' 9-1 spring loss to the Mets on Sunday. He allowed six hits and two walks while striking out one.

Fantasy Impact

Gomber also served up a pair of homers in this one, with a three-run shot by Amed Rosario doing the bulk of the damage against him. Gomber is in the running for a rotation spot in St. Louis, but has had an atrocious spring. He's allowed eight earned runs in seven innings thus far, along with five home runs. From a fantasy perspective, Gomber is probably the least interesting of the pitchers in the mix for that final rotation spot, as Alex Reyes, Dakota Hudson, and Carlos Martinez are all vying for it as well. Gomber would be an NL-only league option only if named a starter.

Austin Gomber pitching five solid innings Tuesday

Austin Gomber allowed just one run on six hits and three walks, while striking out five over five innings to earn the win over the Braves on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

His 3.63 ERA is more a product of luck than skill as his 1.45 WHIP suggests. He'll need to establish better control if he wants to keep that ERA down.

Austin Gomber takes first loss against the Dodgers

Austin Gomber allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk over three innings on Thursday against the Dodgers. He struck out three and took the loss, falling to 5-1.

Fantasy Impact

This was Gomber's first real dud of the season, and it couldn't have come at a worse time. The lefty saw his ERA jump by almost a run (from 2.93 to 3.78), and his WHIP now sits at 1.43.

Austin Gomber throws quality start in no-decision Friday

Austin Gomber allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings on Friday against the Tigers. He struck out six and did not factor into the decision.

Fantasy Impact

Gomber was effective yet again, though he couldn't earn the win despite the good matchup. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start since August 4, and can be used in deeper leagues, especially in the right matchup.

Austin Gomber effective in win over Reds

Austin Gomber allowed two runs on 10 hits over seven innings on Friday against the Reds. He struck out three and earned the win, moving to 5-0.

Fantasy Impact

Gomber got plenty of run support in this one, and pounded the strike zone, walking none for the first time in any start this season. He now has a 2.77 ERA and 1.32 WHIP on the season, and is in line to take on the Nationals in his next start.
