Padres reliever Dan Altavilla is back on the injured list. This time, he's dealing with right elbow inflammation. It's the second IL stint for the right-hander through just three weeks as he missed the start of the season due to a right calf strain.
Fantasy Impact
Altavilla surrendered one run over two relief appearances (1.1 innings) prior to his injury. He struck out two batters and had yet to walk anyone. The 28-year-old is a former minor league All-Star who was dealt to San Diego from Seattle last summer.
Dan Altavilla allowed one hit and struck out one in his one inning save on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
Altavilla has been solid in his first two outings this season. If you're in a league that counts holds along with saves, Altavilla can be added as a consistent arm in this bullpen. At this point, we're just unsure whether or not Seattle is going to commit to one bonafide closer.
The Mariners have placed reliever Dan Altavilla on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 7, with a sprained UCL in his right elbow.
Fantasy Impact
Rest and light rehab is the current prescription for Altavilla, although Tommy John is always a concern with UCL issues. The Mariners will definitely miss the young right-hander, as he has not allowed a run over his last nine appearances since April 29.
Dan Altavilla allowed one unearned run on one hit while striking out one batter in the sixth inning against Texas on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
After being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, Altavilla picked up right where he left off. Over seven appearances for the Mariners in the month of May, he has only allowed two hits and zero earned runs. While he is not overpowering batters to rack up strikeouts, fantasy owners could count on Altavilla for a couple of points per appearance.
Dan Altavilla earned the win against the Tigers on Friday night after striking out one over one inning of relief. This is his third win of the season.
Fantasy Impact
After relieving Felix Hernandez in the top of the seventh, Altavilla retired the Tigers in order on only 10 pitches. His average fastball velocity was over 98 mph on Friday night, which is more than 2 mph faster than his season average. Altavilla has still not allowed a run over 3 1/3 innings pitched in the month of May.
