The final bench spot came down to Ruf and Tim Locastro, and the Mets ultimately decided to go with Locastro. Ruf hit just .152 with a 24 wRC+ after being traded to the Mets last season. He will look to rebound elsewhere.

Mets manager Buck Showalter said Darin Ruf received an injection in his right wrist and will probably need 2-3 days before he can start hitting again.

There should be more clarity on the status of Ruf in the next week or so. It doesn't appear to be serious at this moment in time, but it will be a situation to monitor nonetheless.

Ruf will provide an option for the Mets in the outfield and at first base. The 36-year-old is slashing .216/.328/.373 with 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, and two stolen bases this season. Ruf figures to slot into a platoon role in the Mets offense that should still provide solid fantasy production.

Ruf's 11th homer of the season was a clutch one for San Francisco, as it tied the game up at 4-4 in the fifth inning. The veteran has now hit four of his 11 long balls in his last six appearances, so he seems to have found his power stroke after struggling to open up the season. He remains not a fantasy option, but this stretch has been encouraging.

Ruf came up clutch for the Giants on Friday, blasting a game-tying grand slam in the seventh inning of the rivalry matchup with the Dodgers. The slugger has now tallied a homer in each of his last three games, with the previous two obviously coming before the All-Star break. If he can find more consistency with his power going forward than he did in the first half (he now has just 10 homers this season), he may see some fantasy value in deep leagues. However, that is still a ways away.
