Guardians catcher Dom Nunez has been informed he will not make the Opening Day roster, according to manager Stephen Vogt.
Fantasy Impact
Nunez will remain in big league camp for a few more days, where he has hit .300 (3-for-10) with a pair of homers and four walks across 14 trips to the plate. The 31-year-old is on a minor league deal and has hit just .182 with 12 home runs and a .651 OPS across 354 career big league trips to the plate.
Dom Nunez has signed a minor league contract to remain with the Cleveland Guardians. The deal includes an invitation to Spring Training.
Fantasy Impact
Nunez has spent the last two seasons in the Guardians' organization, primarily playing with Triple-A Columbus. He did appear in two games with Cleveland last season and went 2-for-7 at the dish. Regarded more for his glove than his bat, Nunez has 354 plate appearances at the big league level between Colorado and Cleveland and has slashed .182/.280/.371 in parts of four seasons. Nunez will, more than likely, keep the same role with the Guardians as he has had for the past two years.
The Guardians optioned C Dom Nuñez to Triple-A Columbus.
Fantasy Impact
This move is likely being made ahead of Austin Hedges being activated from the concussion injured list ahead of Friday's series opener against the Mariners.
Dom Nunez is back in the lineup for the Guardians on Thursday.
