Esmerlyn Valdez has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fantasy Impact
Valdez had a solid spring for the Pirates, hitting .294 with a home run and six RBI in 23 plate appearances. He combined to hit .286 with 26 home runs in 529 plate appearances between High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona last season. The 22-year-old will get his first taste of Triple-A action to begin the season. With his intriguing power bat and position versatility at first base and at all three outfield positions, he is a name to watch in the Pirates' organization.
Pirates infield prospect Esmerlyn Valdez was injured sliding for a ball in foul territory on Tuesday and needed a cart to get off the field.
Fantasy Impact
Valdez, 21, raked at High-A to begin the season, hitting .303 with 20 homers and a .977 OPS in 72 games before cooling off after a promotion to Double-A. It looks like he will miss some time moving forward.
