Nationals infielder Ildemaro Vargas is not in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Braves.
Vargas started at third base and went 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI as part of his club's 13-3 drubbing of the White Sox on Wednesday but will hit the bench for Thursday's series opener with the Braves. It's been a tough season at the plate for Vargas who is hitting .251 with four homers, one steal, and a .662 OPS across 265 plate appearances.
Vargas had a productive game on Friday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI to help lead the Nationals to an 8-2 win over the Athletics.
This performance adds to his season totals of 37 hits, four home runs, and 24 RBI in 50 games played. Fantasy managers can leave the 32-year-old off their radar for now.
Ildemaro Vargas has been eyed as a potential target for many teams at the trade deadline.
Vargas has had a solid season in 2023, hitting .277 with a 94 wRC+ while playing four different positions and being a switch hitter. He could add some good depth on the bench of a contending team.
