Jake McCarthy pinch-ran for Kyle Karros in the eighth inning, stole a base, and scored the tying run as the Rockies defeated the Blue Jays, 2-1, in 10 innings on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
McCarthy did not start for the first time this season, but he made an impact with his legs by stealing his fourth base of the season and scoring the tying run on an RBI single from Troy Johnston. McCarthy stayed in the game, but was pinch-hit for by Tyler Freeman when his turn came up in the top of the tenth. McCarthy is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases, but he is just 2-for-18 at the plate in six contests this season. He's going to need to start hitting to remain in the Rockies' lineup.
Jake McCarthy went 0-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base in Colorado's 14-5 win over Toronto on Monday night.
Fantasy Impact
McCarthy is currently tied for the major league lead in stolen bases with three, but he dropped to 1-for-14 (.077) on the season after his 0-for-3 performance on Monday. Outfield is a position of strength for Colorado, so McCarthy is going to need to start hitting or he may find himself in a platoon situation, or worse. At the very least, the Rockies may need to drop him in the order until he gets going.
Jake McCarthy went 0-for-4, but stole his second bag of the season on Sunday during Colorado's 4-3 loss to Miami.
Fantasy Impact
McCarthy went 1-for-3 in Colorado's opener on Friday, but has gone hitless in his last nine at bats to drop to 1-for-11 on the young season. However, he did steal his second bag of the year on Sunday and should be a solid source for steals this season. McCarthy hit just .204 in limited time last season in Arizona, but is a career .259 hitter in 1,460 plate appearances. He stole a career-high 26 bases in 2023 and should, at least, approach that number in 2026 as the everyday leadoff hitter in Colorado.
Jake McCarthy went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 season-opening loss to Miami on Friday.
Fantasy Impact
McCarthy, who came over to Colorado in a trade with Arizona in January, led off and played left field in his Rockies' debut. He reached on a bunt single in the fourth and promptly stole second, but was thrown out trying to score on a single by Hunter Goodman. McCarthy, whose career-high in stolen bases was 26 back in 2023, could easily surpass that in 2026 as he'll likely be Colorado's everyday left fielder.
Jake McCarthy has been traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league pitching prospect, Josh Grosz.
Fantasy Impact
McCarthy, a former first round pick by the Diamondbacks in 2018, struggled in his fifth year with Arizona last season as he batted just .204 in 222 plate appearances. In five seasons in the desert, McCarthy hit .260 with 24 home runs and 83 stolen bases in 431 career games. The speedy outfielder should have an everyday role in the Colorado lineup and has the potential to hit 10-15 home runs and swipe 30-35 bags with a starting job.
