Jazz Chisholm underwent surgery for torn meniscus Friday

Jazz Chisholm underwent surgery for a torn right meniscus on Friday. He is still expected to be ready for spring training.

Fantasy Impact

Not only was the Marlins’ star second baseman dealing with a stress fracture in his lower back, but he played through a torn meniscus. With Chisholm out for the rest of the season prior to the surgery, it made sense for him to have it as soon as possible. Fantasy managers should hope to have a fully healthy Chisholm in 2023.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. will have his back evaluated next week

Jazz Chisholm Jr. will have his back evaluated to see when he can begin baseball activities.

Fantasy Impact

Chisholm has been out since late June with a stress fracture in his back. There is a chance he could begin baseball activities next week if he is cleared. His timeline should be clear once the results of his evaluation come back.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. out six weeks with stress fracture in back

Jazz Chisholm Jr. underwent a CT scan which revealed a stress fracture in his back. He will miss approximately six weeks.

Fantasy Impact

This is awful news for Chisholm and his fantasy managers, as it leaves a best-case scenario for his return in early-to-mid September. Speculation among beat writers is that the six-week timeframe is optimistic and with the Marlins unlikely to compete, Chisholm is likely lost for the remainder of the fantasy season for all intents and purposes. The youngster has an incredible ceiling and all the talent in the world, but this will be the second straight season that he will have missed significant time. Don’t sell low in dynasty formats yet, but he’s effectively droppable in redraft leagues.

Jazz Chisolm Jr. (back) beginning rehab assignment Saturday

Jazz Chisolm Jr. (back) is scheduled to play a rehab game at Miami's rookie ball complex Saturday. He has been doing mobility drills, running, and taking ground balls.

Fantasy Impact

Chisolm seems to be making good progress toward a return and will begin rehab games soon. It's unknown how many rehab games he will need, but it's likely he will at least need a few. If all goes well, he could return by next weekend.
