Jesse Chavez done for the season

Jesse Chavez (elbow) will not pitch again this season.

Fantasy Impact

Chavez was placed on the injured list earlier this month. His injury was originally reported as right elbow impingement, but after further testing, it was revealed to be a bone spur. He will be examined next week to determine if surgery is necessary. Chavez finishes the season with a 4.85 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 72:22 K:BB across 78 innings.

Jesse Chavez picks up first save

Jesse Chavez allowed one hit and struck out two through a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 9-7 win over the Mariners. He picked up his first save of the season.

Fantasy Impact

Chavez received the save opportunity after Jose Leclerc blew a save Sunday, but this could be a committee going forward. With Chris Martin dealt and Shawn Kelley on the injured list, Chavez could be in line for some additional save opportunities. If you are desperate for saves, he is worth a look while current closer Shawn Kelley is shelved. Chavez has a 4.42 ERA with a 8.5 K/9 and a 2.7 BB/9 through 43 appearances this season.

Jesse Chavez lit up on Wednesday

Jesse Chavez (3-5) yielded seven runs on five hits and a walk while striking out none through 2/3 of an inning in Wednesday's 19-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. He took his fifth loss of the season.

Fantasy Impact

Chavez allowed seven base runners and seven runs before being pulled without making it through an inning. He owns a 4.72 ERA and an 8.1 K/9 through 68 2/3 innings for the Rangers this season. His next scheduled start is Monday, away against the Mariners. Avoid using him as a streaming option, until he can string together a few quality starts in a row.

Jesse Chavez roughed up in no-decision

Jesse Chavez allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in a no-decision against the Astros.

Fantasy Impact

Chavez owned a 2.79 ERA after two starts when joining the Rangers rotation. He has struggled in his last three starts, and has seen his ERA rise from 2.79 to 3.84. Chavez is not currently scheduled to pitch next week, and his spot in the rotation could be in jeopardy.

Jesse Chavez has a strong start in win

Jesse Chavez allowed no earned runs on five hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts through 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday against the Tigers.

Fantasy Impact

Chavez' lone run allowed was unearned, he was rock solid in the outing. He's got a 2.79 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 48 strikeouts. He's worth a look with the right matchup.
