The Angels have released right-hander Jesse Chavez. He was in camp as a non-roster invite.
Chavez, 37, owns a 4.52 ERA over 481 games (79 starts). He has spent 13 years in the majors with nine teams. He allowed seven runs through just 4.1 innings of work this spring, walking three and striking out just two. Those are poor numbers, but perhaps his longevity in baseball will earn him a minors deal elsewhere.
Free agent pitcher Jesse Chavez has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, which includes an invite to Spring Training, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Chavez put up a subpar 6.88 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 17 relief innings with the Rangers last season but this is a low-risk signing by the Angels. If he performs well in Spring he should make the final roster and boost the Angels' bullpen depth.
Jesse Chavez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left big toe sprain, retroactive to August 23rd.
Chavez suffered a big left toe sprain and will miss at least the next ten days. The 37-year-old has struggled this season, owning 8.74 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, nine strikeouts and three blown saves across 12 games in 2020.
Jesse Chavez (elbow) will not pitch again this season.
Chavez was placed on the injured list earlier this month. His injury was originally reported as right elbow impingement, but after further testing, it was revealed to be a bone spur. He will be examined next week to determine if surgery is necessary. Chavez finishes the season with a 4.85 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 72:22 K:BB across 78 innings.
Jesse Chavez allowed one hit and struck out two through a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 9-7 win over the Mariners. He picked up his first save of the season.
Chavez received the save opportunity after Jose Leclerc blew a save Sunday, but this could be a committee going forward. With Chris Martin dealt and Shawn Kelley on the injured list, Chavez could be in line for some additional save opportunities. If you are desperate for saves, he is worth a look while current closer Shawn Kelley is shelved. Chavez has a 4.42 ERA with a 8.5 K/9 and a 2.7 BB/9 through 43 appearances this season.
