Fantasy Impact: Peralta will resume the role previously filled by Aledmys Diaz, who is now on the disabled list with an injury of his own. Peralta struggled since his return, and considering he wasn't over the thumb injury owners should take a cautious approach even though he'll slide back into a regular role.

Fantasy Impact: Very disappointing news for Peralta, who missed the first two months of the season with the injury. Peralta had struggled even after coming back, and is droppable in all but NL-only leagues.

Jhonny Peralta was held out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Monday due to his lingering thumb issue. He's experiencing discomfort in the thumb that was surgically repaired this spring.

Fantasy Impact: It's not good news to see this issue lingering. The Cardinals will likely take it easy with Peralta in order to get the most out of him that they can this season. There were expectations that the thumb injury could impact his 2016 season, so hopefully owners have made other plans. He's struggled to a .674 OPS this season.

Jhonny Peralta hits solo home run

Sun, Jul 17th 10:18am EDT
By Dan Harris

Jhonny Peralta went 1-for-4 with a solo home run on Saturday against the Marlins. It was Peralta's fifth home run of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is just 1-for-8 since the All-Star break, and hasn't done much of anything since returning from the DL last month. He should provide a fair number of home runs for a shortstop for the rest of the season, but is probably just outside the top. 12 shortstops going forward.

Fantasy Impact: This is concerning even if the Cardinals aren't admitting it. There was already concern that Peralta would be limited at the plate by the injury, which has been the case with his .681 OPS in 93 at-bats. Owners will want to monitor the situation to see how long he'll be sidelined.

Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-4 on Thursday against the Royals, including a solo home run. It was Peralta's third home run of the season, and second straight multi-hit game.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta hasn't done much since returning from this disabled list, but it looks like he could be finding his rhythm now. When playing well, Peralta is one of the top run producers at the shortstop position. Expect him to continue to improve in the coming weeks and be a consistent source of home runs and RBI.

Jhonny Peralta went 1-for-4 on Monday against the Cubs, including a solo home run. It was Peralta's second home run of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Although this was only Peralta's second home run since returning from the disabled list, he now has six extra-base hits in the twelve games since his activation. Peralta should continue to provide excellent power from the shortstop position, and is far more valuable there than at third base, where he also has eligibility.

Category: , Game Recaps

Jhonny Peralta went 1-for-4 with a double on Tuesday against the Astros. Peralta has at least one hit in six of his seven games since returning from the DL, and is batting .321.

Fantasy Impact: It was reasonable to expect Peralta to struggle at the outset of his return, but it looks like he has hit the ground running. Expect Peralta to hit with a decent amount of power for a shortstop and provide solid counting stats batting in the middle of a strong Cardinals lineup.

Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-5 on Wednesday against the Reds, including his first home run of the season. Peralta has tallied two hits in each of his first two games back from the disabled list.

Fantasy Impact: It certainly didn't take much time for Peralta to find his stroke. He should be valued as he would have been prior to the season - a low-end mixed league shortstop with good power.

Category: , Game Recaps

As expected, Jhonny Peralta has been activated from the DL and is in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday. Peralta is playing third base and batting fifth. Matt Carpenter will move over to second base.

Fantasy Impact: Good to see Peralta finally make it back. Although he should gain third base eligibility shortly, he's more valuable as a shortstop. The real boost goes to Carpenter, who will be one of the top second basemen as soon as he gains eligibility there.

Jhonny Peralta is on track to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday. He will be making his regular season debut after missing time due to a thumb injury suffered during Spring Training.

Fantasy Impact: While it initially appeared Peralta would remain the team's primary SS, the club has now indicated that he'll see most of his playing time at 3B. This will increase his position eligibility once he reaches the minimum requirements for leagues. It also means that Aledmys Diaz will remain at SS with Matt Carpenter set to play more 2B. The odd man out is Kolten Wong after his disappointing start to the season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is on pace to rejoin the Cardinals by next week. He'll resume his role of the team's starting SS when he's playing, but he could be eased back into the lineup. Current SS Aledmys Diaz is expected to continue a consistent presence in the team's starting lineup, shifting around the diamond while also playing SS when Peralta receives rest.

Fantasy Impact: If all continues to go well, Peralta could be back as soon as the next few weeks. He'll need an extended stay in the minors considering he's been sidelined since the spring, but he could be back by early June assuming he doesn't suffer a setback. The team has said he'll return as their regular shortstop, though he will play SS and 3B during his rehab assignment.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta continues to be sidelined due to his thumb injury. It's been determined that he'll resume his role as the team's regular SS when he's activated from the disabled list. He was a productive player last year at a scarce position, specifically in the power department. There are concerns that he could lose some of his power as a result of the thumb injury, so owners might want to temper expectations initially.

Jhonny Peralta could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this week. He's expected to remain the team's starting SS when he returns from injury. (Source: KMOX Sports on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Despite the hot start of Aledmys Diaz, Peralta will remain the team's starter. Diaz's start was unexpected offensively, but the team has said that it will continue providing the younger player at-bats at other positions. This is good news for Peralta, though owners will want to see how he is able to return from the thumb injury which could sap power from the hitter.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta remains several weeks away from a return. His replacement, Aledmys Diaz, has only come in to produce the highest batting average in the majors. As a result, and considering Diaz's age and fielding prowess, the team is expected to work both bats into the lineup when Peralta returns. This could impact the value of both players, so owners will want to monitor as Peralta's return approaches.

Jhonny Peralta suffered an injury to his left thumb during today's Spring Training game. The ailment could cause him to miss two-to-three months. (Source: ESPN on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Peralta had a solid 2015 campaign and was certainly on fantasy radars. It's unclear how much time he'll miss now, but he's expected to be replaced by Jedd Gyorko at SS in St. Louis.

The Cardinals fell to the Brewers on Friday by the score of 4-3. Jhonny Peralta had an excellent game in the loss, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. He's 5-for-7 over the last two games and is batting .274 for the season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta has 17 home runs, 67 RBI and a .747 OPS this season. While his power has dipped this month (only one home run in 74 at-bats), Peralta has put up excellent power numbers for a shortstop. Expect him to be a top choice at shortstop entering next season.

Category: , Game Recaps

Jhonny Peralta didn't have a career game at the plate against Jon Lester and the Chicago Cubs, but did manage to hit a single, score a run, and add his 63rd RBI of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta has seen his average dip all the way down to .269 this season, after a hot start. His career average is .267 so regression for the 33 year old is not shocking. Despite the downward trend in average, Peralta is putting together a fine season with 16 home runs and 63 RBI to boot. Peralta is no longer a No. 1 option at shortstop, like he was earlier in the season, but he is a high-end No. 2 play.

Jhonny Peralta rests on Sunday

Mon, Sep 14th 4:00pm EDT
By Vinny Lanni

Jhonny Peralta did not see the field on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. After playing one game of a doubleheader on Saturday, and pinch hitting in another, Peralta got a day of rest and relaxation.

Fantasy Impact: The veteran shortstop has cooled off a bit as the season has progressed. Since April, Peralta has seen his average dip in each of the following months. Sure, a decline in average month after month is not a good thing, but Peralta hasn't been needed to keep up his production in a potent St. Louis Cardinals lineup. With a .273 AVG/16 HR/60 RBI, Peralta is putting together a fine season and remains a high-end No. 2 shortstop.

Jhonny Peralta had a great game against Gio Gonzalez and the Washington Nationals on Monday night. In the St. Louis Cardinals 8-5 victory, Peralta had two hits, two runs, one RBI and a walk in three at bats.

Fantasy Impact: Fantasy owners got a little bit of everything from Peralta in this game. Peralta has cooled off a little bit as the season has progressed, but even still, he is putting together a great 2015 campaign. The veteran shortstop has a fine slash line of .279/16 HR/59 RBI and should remain active in all leagues through September.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta has a hit in nine out of his last 10 games, and he continues to produce at a high level this season. With a .285 average, 16 home runs and 56 RBI, Peralta is one of the better fantasy shortstops this season.

Jhonny Peralta finished Wednesday's game 2-of-4 with two singles in a 4-2 St. Louis Cardinals win.

Fantasy Impact: It was a modest, but sold night for the .279/16 HR/55 RBI hitting Peralta. The veteran shortstop is having a career year for the Cardinals and continues to hit in the middle of potent lineup. Keep Peralta penciled into your fantasy lineup day in and day out.

Jhonny Peralta homers again

Sun, Aug 2nd 11:05am EDT
By Kerry Kauffman

The Cardinals fell to the Rockies on Saturday, 6-2. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 66-38 on the season. Jhonny Peralta provided a highlight for the Cardinals, belting his 16th home run of the season. It was his only hit in four at-bats and is batting .288 this season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is 5-for-12 in the series with two home runs and five RBI. He's broken out of a recent 1-for-24 slump and is on pace to hit 25 home runs, which would be a career high.

Category: , Game Recaps

The Cardinals pounded 14 hits in a 7-0 win over the Rockies on Friday. Jhonny Peralta provided a big blow with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. He finished 2-for-4 and is now batting .288 this season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta continues his excellent season, now with 15 home runs and 53 RBI. His average has dropped 11 points over the last ten games, but Peralta's average, on-base percentage and OPS are still significantly above his career averages.

The Cardinals enter the All-Star break with a 6-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jhonny Peralta ended on a high note, going 3-for-4 with his 13th home run, an RBI, run scored and a walk. He's now batting .298 for the season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is 7-for-14 over his last three games. He's heading to the All-Star game and for good reason. Peralta has 46 RBI, an on-base percentage of .355 and OPS of .828. He should continue to be one of the top fantasy shortstops in the second half of the season.

Jhonny Peralta picked the perfect time to record his first hit (1-for-4) of the game on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. With the St. Louis Cardinals down by one with two outs in the 9th, Peralta took Pedro Strop deep for a two-run home run, his 12th home run of the season. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: It's been an amazing first half for Peralta and he's showing no signs of slowing down. Peralta may be the most valuable shortstop in the game right now and his WAR (wins above replacement) is second to only Brandon Crawford of the San Francisco Giants. Will Peralta be this good in the second half of the season? Maybe not, but that doesn't mean he can't continue to be one of the top hitting fantasy shortstops this season.

Former American Leaguer Peralta, who is leading the Cardinals in home runs (11) and runs batted (42), was on two All-Star teams while with Detroit — including in 2013, when he was suspended for 50 games in August of that year for a performance-enhancement drug violation. (Source: STLToday)

Fantasy Impact: Who would've thought a 33 year old Peralta would be starting in the All-Star Game at this stage of his career? Well, no one can deny that Peralta deserves the honors. The St. Louis Cardinals shortstop is having a career year and is on pace for a .297 average/22 home runs/83 RBIs. Yes, those are some deserving All-Star numbers indeed.

The Cardinals dropped their third straight game, a 5-3 decision to the San Diego Padres. Jhonny Peralta had a solid game in the loss, going 2-for-6. Peralta has hit safely in seven of his last 10 games and is batting .301 for the season.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta's averages this season are above his career marks. He's on pace for 39 doubles, 23 home runs and 85 RBI. One of the top fantasy shortstops in the league, Peralta should be grabbed if still available.

Jhonny Peralta had a hard time against the Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale in this game. The breakout shortstop finished the game 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta wasn't the only Cardinal to struggle against Sale in this game, so a game like this was understandable. The 33-year-old is on pace for 23 home runs, 85 RBIs and 23 home runs. Yes, it's safe to say that Peralta has turned out to be a draft day steal in his 12th MLB season.

By Kerry Motes

St. Louis Cardinals SS Jhonny Peralta stayed hot Friday night, going 3-for-4 and raising his batting average to .323. Peralta is hitting .360 (9-25) with two HRs, three RBIs and three runs scored in his last seven starts.

Jhonny Peralta finished Wednesday's game 1-of-3 with a single, walk and a strikeout. In Peralta's last 10 games he has a hit in seven of them.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta continues to truck along while sporting a cool .315 AVG/10 HR/35 RBI stat line. With the shortstop position being one of the thinnest in fantasy this year Peralta remains near the top of the group. Continue to start Peralta in all mixed formats.

Jhonny Peralta went 3-for-4 with a RBI single, a double, and a solo-HR against the Dodgers on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta continued his stellar season on Sunday, raising his average to .321 (13th in MLB), and tying Wilmer Flores with nine homers for the most by a SS thus far. He's the best at the position in the majors this season.

Jhonny Peralta went 3-for-4 with three singles and a walk against the Dodgers on Thursday. He also had a RBI and a run scored in the game.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is on pace for the best season of his career. His current average (.318) would be the highest he's ever had, and the eight homers put him on pace to just about match his career high of 23. Keep him active in all fantasy formats and enjoy this crazy ride.

St. Louis Cardinals SS, Jhonny Peralta, hit his 2nd HR of the season on Friday night in Milwaukee. He finished the game 3-for-4 and raised his batting average to .317. The Cardinals bested SP, Matt Garza, 3-0 and tonight will face hard-throwing SP, Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is slashing .317/.344/.500 with 7 R, 2 HR, and 8 RBI. If he is able to maintain hitting at this pace, there is no reason to think he can't finish among the top 10 SS in almost any league.

Category: , Game Recaps

St. Louis Cardinals SS, Jhonny Peralta, had a huge game in their 7-5 victory over the Reds, in the series finale, on Sunday. The Birds were down 5-3 in the top of the 8th inning when Peralta launched a 2-run bomb into straightaway left field off of RP, Jumbo Diaz. It was great timing for the veteran shortstop to hit his 1st home run of the 2015 campaign. He finished 2-for-4 with a R, HR, 2 RBI, and walk.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is off to a really good start to the young season and he has looked really comfortable at the plate. There's no reason to think he can't keep it going against the Brewers on Monday, in the Cardinals home opener, where Milwaukee will send SP, Matt Garza to the bump.

Category: , Game Recaps

The St. Louis Cardinals were stymied by Chicago Cubs, SP, Jake Arrieta, and they failed to score a run in a loss at Wrigley Field, on Wednesday night. SS, Jhonny Peralta, was able to record his 2nd hit of the new season by driving a double down the left field line, that could have potentially put the Birds on the board if 1B, Matt Adams, hadn't been the lead runner. The Cardinals are off on Thursday before heading to Cincinnati on Friday for a weekend series.

Fantasy Impact: The veteran shortstop has looked relatively comfortable at the plate, and he was one of only three Cardinals that were able to register a hit off of Arrieta (one being Lance Lynn) on Wednesday. Cincinnati will start off the series with Jason Marquis on Friday, against whom, Peralta is 1-for-3 with a triple and 2 RBI.

Category: , Game Recaps

Peralta went 2-for-3 with two RBI's Wednesday versus the Mets. His spring training average is .333 with one home run.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta's average draft position is 198. He's not spectacular, but he is steady as a fantasy performer. In 2014, he batted .264 with 21 home runs and 75 RBI's. His average auction value is $5.

Category: , Game Recaps

Jhonny Peralta finally found his power stroke this afternoon, going deep for a solo shot. It was good to see him finally settle in and rip one.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta broke a record for the Cardinals last year for most home runs by a SS in history. No issues here with him, what you see is what you're going to get. Look to see about 20 HRs again this year

Category: , Game Recaps

Jhonny Peralta has not recorded a hit through the first two weeks of spring. The streak continued today as he went 0-2.

Fantasy Impact: He's been known in the past to have slow starts, so this is nothing new. Jhonny didn't get hot last year until midseason, when people starting picking him up off the wire. Hopefully in his second year with St. Louis it doesn't take as long.
