Availability
Astros second baseman Jose Altuve will not suit up for Venezuela at the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Fantasy Impact
The Astros requested that Altuve skip the WBC and instead be with the team throughout Spring Training. The request certainly stems from Altuve missing the first 43 games of the 2023 season after breaking his thumb on a hit by pitch at the 2023 WBC. Altuve's Astros teammate, Carlos Correa, will also skip the WBC due to insurance issues with his contract. Altuve suited up in 155 games for the club last season and is reportedly healthy for spring training after undergoing a foot procedure in November.
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Jose Altuve will play second base almost exclusively next season.
Fantasy Impact
Altuve is expected to see some starts in left field, but he'll primarily move back to the infield at second base. He is slated to be fully healthy after undergoing minor offseason foot surgery.
Jose Altuve underwent right foot surgery on Monday.
Fantasy Impact
Astros beat reporter Brian McTaggart has said Altuve is expected to be fully healthy entering spring training. He played through the injury to end this past season.
Jose Altuve went 1-for-4 in the win over the Rangers with a home run, two RBI, and one run scored.
Fantasy Impact
After today’s victory, Altuve has a .263 batting average with 26 home runs and 74 RBI across 147 games this season. Altuve has struggled lately, hitting just .170 with 12 strikeouts over his last 15 games.
Jose Altuve was not in Sundy's lineup in the series finale against the Atlanta Braves due to right foot discomfort.
Fantasy Impact
Altuve exited Saturday's game in the third inning with right foot discomfort, and his foot remained sore on Sunday. He is considered day-to-day, with his next opportunity to play coming on Monday against the Texas Rangers. Mauricio Dubon could continue to see opportunities at second base if Altuve misses more time.
