Angels reliever Jose Quijada was charged with one hit, two earned runs, and one walk in 0.1 innings while giving up a walk-off grand slam to Charlie Blackmon on Friday night as the Angels lost to the Rockies 8-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning in dramatic fashion.
Brought in to relieve an ineffective Ty Buttrey with one out in the ninth inning, Quijada immediately struck out Raimel Tapia. However, after walking Trevor Story to load the bases, Quijada made a mistake on a 3-1 pitch that Blackmon lifted over the wall in right field to win the game.
Jose Quijada earned the first save of his career in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Phillies. He walked one batter over two-thirds of an inning.
Quijada was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday and now has two hols and a save in the last three games for the Marlins. Sergio Romo was likely given the day off for rest, so it will be interesting to see how/if the Marlins use Quijada in high leverage situations.
