Josh Tomlin released by Brewers

Josh Tomlin was released by the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

So ends Tomlin's bid to be Milwaukee's fifth starter, but he was never really a serious competitor in the first place. The 34-year-old right hander posted a 6.14 ERA in 70.1 innings last season, and in a rare feat of awfulness, managed to post an even higher FIP at 7.16. He allowed 3.2 HR/9 with Cleveland in 2018, and had already allowed three home runs in 4.1 spring innings. Even if he cracks the majors this season, Tomlin has no fantasy value in any format.

Josh Tomlin shuts down Royals over 4+

Josh Tomlin made another brief start on Thursday against the Royals, allowing one run over 4 1/3 innings. He surrendered four hits while striking out five. He did not factor into the decision in the 2-1 defeat.

Fantasy Impact

Tomlin's horrendous 2018 finally comes to a close. He finishes with a 6.14 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 46 Ks in 70 1/3 innings. It would be surprising to see him starting for a big league team in 2019.

Josh Tomlin makes rare start Thursday

Josh Tomlin made a spot start for the Indians on Thursday, giving up four runs on eight hits over four innings. He struck out two in the outing and did not earn a decision after the White Sox won the game in the ninth.

Fantasy Impact

Tomlin has been fantasy irrelevant since mid-May, and you should not pick him up as a streamer if he makes another start. He has a 6.64 ERA this year.

Josh Tomlin surrenders four runs Tuesday

Josh Tomlin tossed 5 1/3 innings Tuesday, giving up four runs on six hits. Half of those hits were for extra bases - two homers and a double. He did not issue a free pass and struck out four.

Fantasy Impact

Considering Tomlin’s ERA was north of eight prior to this start, this could be his best outing of the year. He is still not useful in any type of fantasy league. The Tribe have to be considering Danny Salazar in the rotation once he returns, or looking elsewhere for help.

Josh Tomlin gets lit up Tuesday

Josh Tomlin had a rough time against the Cubs on Tuesday, getting punished for five earned runs in 3 and 2/3 inning pitched. He was done in by the long ball, giving up moonshots to Kyle Schwarber (twice), Ian Happ, and Willson Contreras. He gave up three other hits, two of which were doubles. He gave up more homers (four) than batters he struck out (three). In other words, Tomlin was awful. The Indians lost, 10-3. His record dropped to 0-3.

Fantasy Impact

Fans of the Indians have to be begging Danny Salazar to be coming off the disabled list, because Tomlin has been absolutely terrible this season. The Indians are likely now forced to try Salazar as a starter, given how bad Tomlin has been, and no other immediate pitcher to consider as a starter besides Ryan Merritt, who is currently rehabbing. Tomlin has an atrocious 9.24 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and just seven Ks in 12 and 2/3 innings. He should not be owned by any fantasy player, even as a stream against a bad-hitting team. If he starts again, he gets the Mariners at home next.
