Jung Ho Kang (side) heads to 10-day injured list

The Pirates placed Jung Ho Kang on the 10-day IL with a left side strain.

Jung Ho Kang doubles and homers in loss Wednesday

Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in the Pirates' 11-2 loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

Kang is starting emerge from his slump a little bit, as he has three home runs over his last six starts. He is still hitting .167, but that average is up about 60 points from where it was 10 days ago. He's worth keeping an eye on in mixed leauges.

Jo Ho Kang homers in win Saturday

Jung Ho Kang went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the Pirates' 3-1 win over the Giants on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact

Kang took Derek Holland deep in the fourth, and has been heating up a bit over the past week. He's not doing that well, but has gone 3-for-4 with two home runs since getting a three-day mental break last weekend. He still needs to do more to become mixed league viable.

Jung Ho Kang hits second home run Tuesday

Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the Pirates' 5-3 win over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

Fresh off a three-day mental break, Kang delivered his first multi-hit game of the year and his first home run. The Pirates were facing a lefty starter in this one, and Kang should play against all lefties, but he might lose playing time against right-handed pitching to Colin Moran given how poorly Kang has started the season. Even after this game he has .551 OPS and 39% strikeout rate in 46 PA.

Jung Ho Kang strikes out three times Friday

Jung Ho Kang went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Pirates' 6-3 extra innings win over the Nationals on Friday.

Fantasy Impact

Kang's early season slide continues, as the Pittsburgh third baseman now has a .108 AVG and .195 OBP in 41 PA on the year. Even worse, he was pinch-hit for in the top of the tenth, and his competition Colin Moran hit a game-winning three-run home run in Kang's place. Kang was a spring training riser, but his poor start and loose grip on playing time means he can probably be let go in standard leagues. He's still a name to watch, but he isn't usable in a 10- or 12-team mixed league right now.
