Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post reports that free-agent outfielder Kyle Schwarber has agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals.
Fantasy Impact
Assuming there is no DH in the National League this season, Schwarber would likely slot in as the everyday left fielder with Victor Robles in center field and Juan Soto shifting over to right field. After trading for first baseman Josh Bell two weeks ago, the Nationals have added another powerful bat to the middle of their order to bolster their lineup. After hitting 38 HR with 92 RBI and a .250/.339/.531 slash line in 2019, Schwarber struggled mightily during the abbreviated 2020 season, slashing just .188/.308/.393 with 11 HR and 24 RBI in 59 games. The 27-year-old makes for an intriguing bounce-back candidate in 2021.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports the Cubs aren't expected to tender a contract to OF Kyle Schwarber.
Fantasy Impact
Schwarber was projected to earn around $8 million in his final year of arbitration, which the Cubs evidently don't feel he's worth. The 27-year-old hit just .188 with a .701 OPS in the shortened 2020 campaign. Nightengale also reports that Albert Almora isn't expected to be tendered a contract either.
Kyle Schwarber reached base in the seventh inning and came around to score on an error to make it 9-1. His run would turn out to be the eventual winning run in the 10-8 victory.
Fantasy Impact
Schwarber has plenty of power but a low batting average. He does have patience so he is slightly more valuable in leagues that use OBP.
Kyle Schwarber homered in the second inning to open the scoring. His 11th HR of the season would be the eventual game-winner.
Fantasy Impact
Schwarber has plenty of power but a low batting average. He does have patience so he is slightly more valuable in leagues that use OBP.
Kyle Schwarber went 0-for-4 and stranded four men on base in Thursday's 7-0 loss to the Pirates.
Fantasy Impact
Schwarber is in a big-time funk, slashing just .162/.272/.374 in the past month. Schwarber has been prone to prolonged slumps before, and it's best to ride a hotter hitter in these final stages of the season.
