Minnesota left-hander Lewis Thorpe allowed three runs in four innings in a 5-4 win over the Pirates on Monday. Thorpe struck out three and walked four in the game.
Thorpe had logged 4 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen before Monday's start. The southpaw will probably head back to a relief role after Monday's outing.
Lewis Thorpe will start Monday for the Twins against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Considering all of Thorpe's 2020 appearances have been out of the bullpen it's probable that he will serve as the opener for Minnesota. He's pitched well out of the pen this season, posting 4.2 scoreless innings with a 1.07 WHIP.
Lewis Thorpe is being treated for a leg contusion after being struck by a batted ball during Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Manager Rocco Baldelli noted that Thorpe will be treated for a couple days. Thorpe didn't look comfortable after the injury was sustained, though it sounds like he'll pitch again after a few days' rest.
Lewis Thorpe impressed on Sunday in his major league debut versus the White Sox, striking out seven and allowing just two runs in five innings pitched.
The only damage Thorpe gave up was a two-run homer to Yoan Moncada. The lefty was otherwise sharp so it’ll be interesting to see if the Twins give him another start soon. He’s a name to remember in deeper leagues.
