According to the Department of Justice, Ortiz and teammate Emmanuel Clase are facing counts of wire fraud conspiracy, honest services wire fraud conspiracy, conspiracy to influence sporting contests by bribery, and money laundering conspiracy. Prosecutors allege Clase’s involvement began in May 2023, with Ortiz joining the operation later. Ortiz has been on administrative leave since July 3 while MLB continues its own investigation.
