by Bruno Mulé | Guardians Correspondent | Tue, Nov 11th 10:03am EST

Guardians pitcher Luis L. Ortiz was arrested Sunday in Boston after being indicted on multiple federal charges tied to a scheme to rig bets on MLB games, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. According to the Department of Justice, Ortiz and teammate Emmanuel Clase are facing counts of wire fraud conspiracy, honest services wire fraud conspiracy, conspiracy to influence sporting contests by bribery, and money laundering conspiracy. Prosecutors allege Clase’s involvement began in May 2023, with Ortiz joining the operation later. Ortiz has been on administrative leave since July 3 while MLB continues its own investigation. Fantasy Impact:

Ortiz’s arrest all but ends his professional career. The 26-year-old right-hander is unlikely to pitch again if MLB upholds the findings of the federal investigation. Fantasy managers can safely move on, as Ortiz will have no role in 2026 or beyond.
