Nick Burdi will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection in his strained right elbow per the Pirates director of sports medicine, Todd Tomczyk.
The injection should help Burdi avoid surgery, which would be a welcome sign for the oft-injured reliever. Burdi was placed on the 45-day IL on August 5th with the elbow issue and is out for the season.
The Pirates placed Nick Burdi on the 45-day injured list with a right elbow injury.
Brutal. Burdi has dealt with injuries for years now and had finally gotten a chance at a prominent role in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The team didn't provide any other details at this time but he can obviously be dropped everywhere. Keone Kela (COVID-19) will be the Pirates' closer once he returns.
Nick Burdi (0-1) allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out none across 1/3 inning in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Twins. He picked up his first loss of the season.
Burdi entered the game in the ninth, and allowed two base runners before yielding the GW winning single to Nelson Cruz. He earned his first loss of the season. Keone Kela will be activated off the injured list this week and is expected to reclaim the Pirates closer role. Burdi will return as one of the team's setup men and should only be owned in leagues which rewards the category saves/holds.
Nick Burdi allowed one walk while striking out one across a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 8-6 win over the Brewers.
Burdi entered the ninth to protect a two-run lead and was able to shut down the Brewers on route to his first career save. With Keone Kela (COVID-19) and Kyle Crick (shoulder) on the injured list, Burdi could be line for more save opportunities. He is worth stashing in the short term in all league formats.
Pirates reliever Nick Burdi was fully healthy and hitting tripe digits with his fastball before the remainder of spring training was suspended.
Burdi, 27, missed most all of 2019 after undergoing surgery for neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome. However, he was impressing in spring training this year, allowing just one run while posting an 8/1 K/BB ratio in 4 2/3 innings. Burdi could be a candidate to close at some point should Keone Kela falter or get traded.
