The Giants have signed right-hander Nick Tropeano to a minor league deal and invited him to Spring Training. The pact includes a $1.1 million base salary with incentives that can raise the value to nearly $2 million.
Tropeano is a six-year MLB veteran with experience as both a starter and reliever. His big-league action came with the Astros, Angels, and Pirates, though he also spent time on the Yankees' and Mets' rosters. In 2020 with Pittsburgh, he allowed just two earned runs (1.15 ERA) over 15.2 innings while striking out 19 batters and walking four. Slusser adds that San Francisco feels confident that the 30-year-old can make the team out of camp.
Nick Tropeano (0-1) allowed seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings in Friday's 9-3 loss to the Orioles. He took his first loss of the season.
Tropeano was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake ahead of Friday's game to replace the scheduled starter, Griffin Canning, who pitched in the 15th inning Thursday. He allowed six runs in the second inning, with most of the damage coming from a three-run homer off the bat of Renato Nunez. Tropeano's future status in the Angels' rotation has yet to be determined, and he owns a 9.88 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 13 2/3 innings this season.
Nick Tropeano allowed three runs on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts through five innings on Tuesday against Oakland.
Tropeano made his season debut in the outing, it was an okay performance. He'll see the Mariners next.
The Angels are expected to recall Tropeano from Triple-A to pitch in Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics.
It'll be Tropeano's first major-league action of the season, after going 5-6 with a 4.74 ERA and 64 strikeouts over 76 innings with L.A. last season. With Tropeano boasting an ugly 7.66 ERA in five starts with Salt Lake, his major-league stay could be a short one.
The Angels placed Nick Tropeano on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation. The team recalled Williams Jerez from Triple-A.
This wasn't a surprise after Tropeano left Monday's start with shoulder discomfort. Tropeano has a 4.74 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, and does not need to be stashed at this point in the season.
