Ryne Nelson goes eight strong innings in Sunday victory

Ryne Nelson allowed one run on six hits in eight innings on Sunday as the Diamondbacks defeated the Rockies, 9-1.

Fantasy Impact

Nelson walked three and struck out three in picking up his second victory of the season. The righthander threw a season-high 103 pitches on Sunday and posted his fifth straight solid outing this month after a dismal end to April. During May, Nelson has gone 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA in five starts while posting a 25:8 K:BB ratio in 34.1 innings. He has now gone at least seven innings in his last three starts and has lowered his season ERA to 4.65. He is lined up for a road matchup against the Mariners on Saturday in his next start.

Ryne Nelson earns no-decision Tuesday

Ryne Nelson allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings on Tuesday as he pitched to a no-decision in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 win over the Giants.

Fantasy Impact

Nelson was in line for the loss before Ketel Marte walked off the Diamondbacks with two outs in the ninth. The righthander walked two and struck out three and did serve up two home runs on Tuesday, but he has been good in May after a disastrous end to April. In four May starts, Nelson is 0-1 with a 2.73 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, and a 22:5 K:BB ratio in 26.1 innings. He is lined up to take on the Rockies, in Arizona, on Sunday.

Ryne Nelson goes seven solid innings in no-decision Wednesday

Ryne Nelson allowed three runs on four hits, did not issue a walk, and struck out eight over seven solid innings on Wednesday. However, the Diamondbacks suffered a 6-5 loss to the Rangers.

Fantasy Impact

Nelson retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced, but then ran into an issue in the fifth. A leadoff single, a strikeout, and a hit batter led to a Jake Burger three-run homer which proved to be Nelson's only mistake of the night. He retired eight of the last nine hitters before exiting after seven innings, during which he struck out a season-high eight batters. After allowing 14 earned runs in 5.1 innings over his last two starts in April, Nelson has gotten back on track and has a 2.33 ERA in three starts this month. He will take a 1-3 record with a 5.40 ERA into his next start against San Francisco on Tuesday.

Ryne Nelson settles for no-decision Friday

Ryne Nelson allowed one run on two hits, walked one, and struck out seven, in 6.2 innings on Friday. He settled for a no-decision, however, as the Diamondbacks lost to the Mets in 10 innings, 3-1.

Fantasy Impact

Nelson allowed a solo home run to Mark Vientos in the second, a single to Francisco Alvarez in the third, and a walk to Carson Benge in the seventh as he has put back-to-back solid outings together. Nelson has a 1.46 ERA and an 11:3 K:BB ratio in two starts this month after pitching to a 23.63 ERA in his final two starts in April. Friday's outing was the deepest he has pitched into a game this season and he also tied a season-high with seven strikeouts. He has a 5.68 ERA in eight starts this season and will square off against the Rangers, in Texas, on Wednesday.

Ryne Nelson suffers loss despite solid outing Saturday

Ryne Nelson allowed one run on four hits in 5.2 innings on Saturday, but suffered his third loss of the year as the Diamondbacks were blanked by the Cubs, 2-0.

Fantasy Impact

Nelson walked two and struck out four and his only mistake was a solo home run by Ian Happ to lead off the second inning. Needless to say, it was a much-needed bounce back outing from Nelson, who had allowed 14 earned runs in his previous 5.1 innings. The righthander dropped to 1-3 on the year, but lowered his ERA to 6.61. Nelson is lined up to start against the Mets his next time out on Friday.
