Major League Baseball announced that free agent reliever Sam Dyson has been suspended for the entire 2021 season, including the postseason, for violating the league's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
In a statement, league commissioner Rob Manfred said, "My office has completed its investigation into the allegations that Sam Dyson violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Dyson violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate." Dyson has accepted his suspension. This news comes more than five months after a report from The Athletic detailed Alexis Blackburn's abuse allegations against Dyson. The 32-year-old has spent time with the Blue Jays, Marlins, Rangers, Giants, and Twins since being a fourth-round pick in 2010. His age, lack of free agent interest, and abuse allegations suggest that Dyson's MLB career is over, though he will be free to sign with any team when his suspension concludes.
The Athletic reports Sam Dyson is being investigated for domestic violence.
The investigation stems from some Instragram posts of Dyson's ex-girlfriend, though Dyson's name wasn't specifically mentioned. It's unclear at this time if he'll serve a suspension or not. MLB is currently investigating.
Sam Dyson was traded from the Giants to the Twins in exchange for Prelander Berroa, Jaylin Davis, and Kai-Wei Teng.
Dyson has been rock solid for the Giants this season, compiling a 2.47 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 47:7 K:BB in 51 innings. He will likely be in a setup role for the Twins.
Sam Dyson picked up a save on Monday against the Cubs, allowing two baserunners but zero runs.
Dyson's second save of the year helped preserve the 5-4 Giants win. The veteran reliever now has a 2.57 ERA on the season to go along with a 47/7 K/BB ratio. He was simply filling in for Will Smith in this one so don't expect many save chances moving forward unless Smith is traded soon.
Sam Dyson (4-1) pitched a scoreless 10th inning while striking out two in Friday's 1-0 win over the Mets. He picked up his fourth win of the season.
Dyson has a 2.68 ERA and 0.91 WHIP over 47 innings this season. He has been one of the most consistent relievers and owns a 46:6 K:BB in 45 appearances.
