Scott Barlow pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit and no walks while striking out two to earn the save in Kansas City’s 5-3 win against the White Sox on Thursday.
Barlow served up an 0-2 home run to Andrew Vaughn to leadoff the 9th inning but settled in strikeout the next two batters and record the final three outs in order. Barlow is now 18-for-21 in save opportunities this season. The 29-year-old closer is now 4-4 with a 2.32 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings across 50 appearances. The save was just Batlow’s second since the All-Star break as manager Mike Matheny has elected to also use Barlow in high leverage situations that aren’t necessarily “save” situations.

Barlow bounced back Monday night after picking up two losses and a blown save against the Yankees over the weekend. Barlow is now 17-for-20 in save opportunities and his seventh multi-inning save this season. Barlow is 4-4 with a 2.36 ERA, 1.0-7 WHIP, and 48 strikeouts in 49 2/3 innings across 45 appearances on the year. Fantasy managers have to be happy to see the stud closer start August off much better than he ended July.

The only base runner Barlow allowed Wednesday was when Riley Green reached after striking out on a wild pitch. Barlow is now 15-for-17 on save opportunities this season and carries a 2.16 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings across 38 appearances. Barlow has converted seven straight saves and 14 of his last 15. His 15 saves are good for a tie for 8th in the American League.
