Tim Mayza is returning to the Philadelphia Phillies on a minor league contract. The veteran lefthander will receive an invitation to Spring Training.
Fantasy Impact
Mayza, an eight-year veteran in the majors, has put together a quiet, yet solid career as a middle reliever. Drafted out of Division II Millersville in 2013, Mayza has pitched with the Blue Jays, Yankees, Pirates, and Phillies and has a 20-9 overall record with a 3.89 ERA in 382 career appearances. His best season came in 2023 with Toronto when he pitched 69 games and posted a 1.52 ERA in 53.1 innings. The Allentown, Pennsylvania native pitched with both Pennsylvania teams last season and had a 3.78 ERA in 15 games. There are some openings in the Phillies' bullpen and, with a good spring, Mayza could claim one of those spots.
The Phillies claimed LHP Tim Mayza off waivers from the Pirates.
Fantasy Impact
Mayza was recently designated for assignment by Pittsburgh. He'll add relief depth for the Phillies heading into the postseason.

Pirates left-hander Tim Mayza (shoulder) is throwing from 120 feet with good velocity and intensity, as per senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk.
Fantasy Impact
Mayza appears to be a ways away from a big-league return but seems to be on the right track. He was impactful when healthy, posting a 2.89 ERA across seven outings with the Bucs before hitting the IL.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have transferred Tim Mayza from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL.
Fantasy Impact
Mayza's move to the 60-day IL was expected after Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday the left-hander would be shut down from throwing for at least six weeks. His IL placement opened a roster spot for Matt Gorski, who briefly joined the Pirates before swapping places with Jack Suwinski.
