Molina is expected to be out at least a week with a slight tear in his left thumb. With Molina out, the Cardinals will turn over the primary catching duties to Cruz. Cruz has started the last two games for the Cardinals and has delivered two hits in seven at bats.
Cruz is not viable fantasy option at catcher. Cruz is only hitting .180 on the year with one home run and seven RBI over 111 at bats.
The Cardinals used the long ball in defeating the Diamondbacks on Thursday by the score of 5-3. Tony Cruz hit one of the two home runs, connecting on his first of the season in the second inning. It was his only hit in four at-bats and he's now batting .181 for the season.
Cruz got a rare start behind the plate in place of Yadier Molina. Cruz has just three extra-base hits in 83 at-bats. His on-base percentage and slugging percentage are both under .250. Combine that with very little playing time and Cruz has virtually no fantasy value, but his home run was worth mentioning.
