However, after today's setback, the chance of his return in 2017 is unlikely. If so, Zych will finish the year with a 6-3 record and 12 holds, while recording a respectable 2.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 7.7 K/9.

Following a bullpen session Saturday, the 27-year-old reliever felt some soreness, but an MRI exam revealed no structural damage. Zych will attempt another session this weekend. According to manager Scott Servais, "He'll throw another bullpen Saturday. The bullpen he threw the other day was really good, but something didn't feel quite right in there. So he got some pictures, and that was clear, so he should be good to go once he gets it ramped up again." The Mariners are hoping Zych can return for the last few weeks of the season if this weekend's pitching program goes well. He has been a vital part of the Mariners' bullpen with a 6-3 record, 2.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 45 appearances over 40 2/3 innings.

The Mariners gave the 27-year-old reliever some extra days of rest, but his right elbow did not respond. Zych was having a fine year recording a 6-3 record with a 2.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. It is not known at this time the extent of the injury. In a corresponding move, the Mariners recalled right-handed reliever Dan Altavilla from Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners expect Tony Zych to miss four-to-six weeks due to his shoulder issue, which they have termed tendinitis. He was placed on the team's disabled list earlier this week.

Zych's absence will hurt the Mariners' bullpen, but it's not extremely fantasy relevant. While he was showing strikeout potential this season, he's a non-closer RP that only qualified for a single hold this season.
