Wesley Wright has been designated for assignment according to the Baltimore Orioles' official Twitter page on Wednesday morning. The left handed pitcher was reinstated from the 60 day disabled list prior to being designated. Wright only appeared in two games this season after signing a one-year deal for 1.7 million this offseason.
Fantasy Impact
Wright amassed no fantasy value during his time with the Orioles and was a poor signing for the franchise. Wright will leave the club with a 5.40 ERA through 1 2/3 innings. This is Wright's eighth season in league in which he has a career 4.60 ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles placed lefty Wesley Wright on the 15-day disabled list, according to an article by Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. Wright reported feeling pain behind his left shoulder for a few days prior to the Orioles Opening day 12-5 loss to Toronto.
Fantasy Impact
Wright reportedly informed his team that he had been experiencing pain behind his left shoulder and neck and it is believed to be related to his trapezius muscle. He made two appearances and allowed one run with two hits in 1 2/3 innings (MASN).
The Orioles reached a 1 year deal with LHP Wesley Wright, Roch Kubatko reports.
Fantasy Impact
This gives the Orioles another left handed reliever in their bullpen. Wright is a solid reliever who pitched for the Cubs last year. With the addition of Wright, it could be possible that the Orioles are interested in trading Brian Matusz. Fantasy Owners may want to look for Wright getting some good time on the mound if Matusz ends up leaving, potentially adding holds as a late inning left handed setup man.
