Zach Putnam

The White Sox placed Zach Putnam on the 10-day DL with elbow inflammation on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

He left Saturday's game when his right elbow began to feel tender. It's a big blow for the struggling White Sox as Putnam was a bright spot out of the bullpen. There were reports that he was back to full health however that was not the case. He wasn't really on any fantasy rosters though so this isn't that big of a deal in fantasy-land.

After undergoing surgery last August, Zach Putnam appears to have bounced right back into form. So far this season, he has yet to allow a run after appearing in five games, while also striking out eight along the way - good enough for an impressive mark of 10.29 Ks per nine innings.

Fantasy Impact

Still only one percent owned across fantasy leagues, Putnam is severely undervalued - as his production thus far on the season has only reaffirmed his rising stock among relievers after posting a 2.30 ERA in 2016.

Zach Putnam pitched an inning that every reliever hopes to pitch when called to the mound. Putnam faced three hitters and fanned them all. Three up, three down they say, as he pitched three strikeouts and recorded his third Hold of the season.

Fantasy Impact

Putnam has performed well as of late. He now has a 3.66 ERA, but over the last seven games, he has pitched an ERA of 1.35 while striking out 13. He is now pitching close to his career average. If the White Sox start leaning more on Putnam in Hold situations, he could make for a great reliever in leagues who reward relief pitchers for Holds. He has little value in other formats though.

Zach Putnam did everything a relief pitcher is supposed to do on Tuesday. He came in for one inning and did not let up a hit. He retired three consecutive batters; striking out George Springer to end the seventh inning.

Zach Putnam has appeared in 20 games this season. He has an ERA of 3.86. Putnam has 27 strikeouts in 18.2 innings and a 1.23 WHIP. Putnam does not have much value in fantasy. He only has two holds on the season. Currently there are 122 relief pitchers who have more holds than Putnam this season. Unless he starts getting more opportunities, he does not deserve a look in any format.
