Fantasy Impact: Cozart had surgery on his right knee prior to the 2016 season and so it makes sense for the team to take a cautious approach with the veteran. He's also struggled a bit at the plate of late, so the team will look for improved production following the day (or days) off.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart will give way to Jose Peraza who has hit .300 in 120 at-bats this season to go along with 12 SB and 15 runs. Peraza is a good value play in daily fantasy and a starting play in deep fantasy baseball leagues.

Zack Cozart remained sidelined on Monday due to injuries to his knee and heel. He's not expected to be ready to return until at least Wednesday, if then. (Source: C. Trent Rosecrans on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Cozart has been out since August 17 due to the injuries. He's been limited to 107 games this season due to injury, and he's been just mediocre when he's played. The one bright spot has been his power from the SS position, as he's hit 25 doubles nad 15 home runs on the year.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart was a late scratch, so it appears that he'll be back in the starting lineup soon. He's done well overall this season, posting a respectable OPS of .779 with 15 home runs and three SB over 95 games.

Zack Cozart went 1-for-6, making his lone hit count with a RBI in Cincinnati's 5-4 loss to Atlanta on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact: Leaving three runners on base last night, Cozart's RBI is a small relief for fans who saw Cozart do damage to his weekly batting average with a 1-for-6 outing. Over his last seven games, Cozart is batting .200, but has driven in a run in two consecutive games.

Cozart went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in the sixth inning of the Reds 5-4 loss to Houston.

Fantasy Impact: He is batting .280 this season with 10 home runs and 27 RBI. He has gone 4-for-13 in his last three games.

Cozart went 2-for-4 with home run and two RBI in the Reds 7-2 victory over the Nationals Friday. He delivered an RBI single in the second inning and homered in the 8th inning off Nationals reliever Yusmeiro Petit.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart brought his hot hitting home Friday following up on a big series in Coors Field during the week. He is riding a five-game hitting streak batting .455 with three homers, six runs and six RBI. Cozart will look to continue his hitting streak against Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals on Saturday.

Zack Cozart hit his fourth home-run of the season to lead-off the bottom of the first inning against Jon Niese and the Pirates.

Fantasy Impact: It was his only hit of the evening, but he continues to shine in the lead-off spot. With the Reds in a rebuilding year, look for trade rumors to begin swirling with Cozart's name involved. He's a 30-year-old that is better known for his glove, but would be an attractive trade piece should he keep hitting.

Zack Cozart went 5-for-14 with two doubles, three runs, and a stolen base against the Brewers before sitting out of the series finale on Sunday. He is now hitting .344 with three home runs, 11 RBI, and 18 runs on the year.

Fantasy Impact: While Cozart has been effective out of the lead-off spot, don't anticipate him sustaining these numbers all season. He has only drawn two walks and holds a career OBP of .287, much lower than you'd hope from your everyday lead-off hitter.

Zack Cozart will bat leadoff in his return to the Reds lineup on Wednesday against the Giants. (Source: MLBLineups on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Cozart has a great slash line of .347/.350/.533 so let's ride the hot streak. DFS wise, Cozart's value might not be at an all-time high, but Zack is pretty decently priced. Get him in your lineups in a weak shortstop class.

Zack Cozart is not expected to miss much time due to his knee injury, which the team has termed tendinitis. He could have played on Monday, according to the Reds, but they opted to give him another day off. (Source: John Fay on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is good news as there was some concern that this could have been more serious considering Cozart's previous knee issues. Hopefully the brief time off won't stop Cozart's hot start to the season.

Zack Cozart is out of the Reds' lineup for Monday's opener against the Giants. Cozart exited Sunday's game with a right knee injury.

Fantasy Impact: It's not clear how extensive this is. It's a shame since Cozart was off to a nice start this season. Owners will need to monitor the situation, and the team should have more info available as soon as today on the status of his knee.

Zack Cozart went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Cincinnati's 5-3 loss to the Mets on Monday evening.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart followed a 3-for-5 performance on Apr. 23 with a hit in his third consecutive game, increasing his RBI total on the year to seven on Monday, while seeing his batting average slip to .389.

Category: , Game Recaps

Zack Cozart increased his consecutive game hitting streak to eight with a 2-for-4 effort on Monday in a 5-1 loss to Colorado.

Fantasy Impact: Over the last three games, Cozart has batted 7-of-12, scoring three runs while driving in a pair of runs. Leading the Reds' offensively, Cozart's bat is one that doesn't rack up the run production, but owners striving for a hit total increase should look his way.

Zack Cozart picked up his fifth double of the season in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Cardinals. He finished 2-for-4 with a strikeout and run scored.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart has found success in the Reds' series against the Cardinals, batting 7-of-12 during the series with three doubles over the final two games. His .483 batting average should have owners optimistic that the shortstop has found momentum at the early part of the season.

Zack Cozart we held out of Wednesday's lineup due to his quad injury. He suffered the injury earlier in the week and was forced to exit a game. He's said that he hopes to return to the Reds' lineup soon. (Source:

Fantasy Impact: It's not clear if this will require a stint on the DL. Cozart isn't likely to be extremely fantasy relevant at this point, but that could certainly change if he's able to get healthy and continue his hot start.

Zack Cozart exited Monday's game after experiencing tightness in his quad. He is considered day-to-day. (Source: Mark Sheldon on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Cozart was replaced by Ivan De Jesus Jr. at SS. Owners or those considering Cozart will want to monitor this situation, as tightness can lead to a more extended absence. He will likely at least be rested as a result of the tightness while the team determines the extent of the injury.

Fantasy Impact: The team announced that speedster Billy Hamilton will have to earn his way back to the top of the lineup after struggling last season. This opens the way for Cozart to bat atop the order. Cozart has shown decent power for a middle infielder and would hold more fantasy value if he consistently bats atop the team's lineup.

Zack Cozart is out for the season after suffering torn ligaments and a tendon in his right knee. He will have surgery on it Monday. (Source:

Fantasy Impact: This is a big blow to the Reds and fantasy owners, as Cozart was a top-10 fantasy shortstop, with his nine homers tied for third at the position. He looks to be replaced by Eugenio Suarez who was called up from Triple-A.

Zack Cozart feasted off Phillies pitching on Monday in the Reds 6-4 win. He went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored. His stellar night increased his batting average to .261 for the season.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart is on pace for 23 home runs this season and appears to have found his power that he had in 2012 and 2013 when he surpassed double digits in home runs. Cozart is a sold pick at shortstop for owners struggling at the position.

Zack was 2-for-3 on Sunday in the series finale against the Chicago Whitesox. He hit a huge double in the top of the ninth, scoring Boesch and Negron, to tie the game.

Fantasy Impact: He sat the previous three games due to a wrist injury, but the break appeared to do him some good. He was 5-for-10 with three runs scored, and three RBI in the series. Cozart is batting much better than his history indicates he should, but as a young player he may just be finding what works for him on this level. A fantastic value for any format right now as he continues to be overlooked.

Category: , Game Recaps

The Reds will be eyeing Cozart's fingers over the next couple days to see how it is progressing after he caught a bad bounce trying to field the ball open handed. The bounce put a significant bruise on the tip of his middle finger on his throwing hand. Before that, he was 0-for-1 at the plate in his series finale against Atlanta.

Fantasy Impact: The hand is no worry to me for Cozart. It shouldn't keep him out long, and has no impact on his future plate performance. He's batting well this season, batting .304, including five homeruns and 12 RBI.

Category: , Game Recaps, Rumors

Zack went 1-for-4, with a run scored in the series finale against the Cubbies. A rainout on Saturday shortened the series to two games, luckily for Cozart. He struggled significantly against Chicago, going 1-for-8 in the two games they played.

Fantasy Impact: The last four games has been a bit of a hangover for Zack. Since the night he posted up huge numbers in Milwaukee (including two homeruns), he has gone 2-for-15. Maybe a little taste of Brewer is what he needs to get some life back. I like the Reds chances to put up lots of runs in the coming days, and I think Cozart will have his share.

Category: , Game Recaps

Cozart had a monstrous day on the offensive side of the ball, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs, three RBI's, and a stolen base in the Reds 16-10 win over Milwaukee.

Fantasy Impact: Cozart is arguably the hottest player in baseball right now, batting .478 with four home runs, and seven RBI's in the last seven days. He's already matched last years total in home runs, so this could just be a fluke, albeit a fantastic one. Look for the production to continue tonight as the Reds enter game three of a four game series against the Milwaukee Brewers (2-12).

Category: , Game Recaps

Cozart launched a two-run home run in the sixth inning of the Reds 6-1 win over Milwaukee. He went 1-for-4 on the day with three RBI's. His batting average for 2015 is now up to .326.

Fantasy Impact: Hard to believe that Cozart is only owned by 1% of a consensus owners in Yahoo and ESPN leagues. If you're struggling at shortstop or need an injury replacement you may want to take a look.

Cozart impressive to start season (Source: Stats)

Fantasy Impact: Zack Cozart has occupied the 8 spot in the Cincinnati lineup for the majority of the past three seasons, and for good reason. Cozart is coming off a dreadful 2014 season in which he batted .221, knocked in only 38 runs, and homered just 4 times in 147 games. The 2015 expectations for Cozart were non-existent as most fans and fantasy owners were looking forward to the arrival of Eugenio Suarez, who the Reds acquired in the Alfredo Simon deal from Detroit. Suarez failed to make the big league club following a mediocre spring and the shortstop position again belonged to Cozart. Zack Cozart has been nothing short of remarkable over the first two weeks of the season as he is hitting .368, leading the Reds along with all NL shortstops. Cozart has added a home run, 4 runs, and 2 RBI’s. Zack Cozart remains dirt cheap in all DFS formats and should be considered when short on salary.
