Pitchers aren't supposed to dominate like this in their mid-30s. In his age-36 campaign, Verlander continues to defy the aging curve by posting a 2.38 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, and 95 strikeouts in 79.1 innings. An MLB-low .168 BABIP is bound to rise, and he won't keep stranding 93.8% of baserunners. Even if he pitches to his 3.22 SIERA, he's still an elite ace as most other top hurlers struggle.

Judging solely by his peripheral numbers, Verlander has been quite lucky so far this year -- he currently has the lowest BABIP allowed and highest strand rate of any qualified starter in the Majors. But top-tier aces like Verlander are also fully capable of making their own luck. Verlander probably won't be a sub-3.00 ERA pitcher from here on out if he continues pitching like he has been, but he could always take his performance to another level like he did last year -- and he'll still be really valuable even if he doesn't.

Verlander may be turning 36 years old soon, but his velocity is still as impressive as ever and he 2018 was actually his best K% (34.8%, second best 28.1%) of his career while his BB% (4.4%) was his lowest. Don't avoid him because of his age. He is rocking better than ever before
