Given a clear path to saves with Brandon Morrow on the shelf, Strop went on the IL with a hamstring injury. Bothered by the issue, he had posted a 5.06 ERA following a three-run flare-up against the Marlins. He immediately recorded a save upon returning on June 4, but the Cubs signed Craig Kimbrel the next day. Strop could see some save chances in the next week or two before the free-agent signing is ready.

Brandon Morrow is technically the Cubs' closer, but it seems as though he will miss at least a month to open the season. Strop was named the replacement but hasn't been great thus far so let's see if he can straighten himself out before Morrow tries to take the job back.

Strop is currently serving as the Cubs' primary closer while Brandon Morrow recovers from an elbow injury. With a 2.61 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 10.1 K/9 over the last five seasons, Strop could well be a top-10 closer if he were able to hold onto the job all year. That uncertainty puts a bit of a damper on Strop's fantasy value, but he has proven he can be a fantasy asset in many formats even when he isn't closing games.
