Pedro Strop inks one-year contract with Reds

Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital in the Dominican Republic reports the Reds have signed reliever Pedro Strop to a one-year deal.

Fantasy Impact

The contract is worth $1.825 million with an additional $1.5 million that could be had in performance bonuses. The 34-year-old will work in a set up role for the Reds in 2020. He posted a 4.97 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP in 2019.

Pedro Strop earns 10th save Sunday

Pedro Strop secured the save Sunday against the Reds, walking one and striking out one in the ninth inning.

Fantasy Impact

This was Strop's first save since June 23, as he hasn't received many opportunities since the arrival of Craig Kimbrel. Since his last save, however, he has blown saves on three occasions. Strop's season ERA sits at 4.85, and he has 31 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.

Pedro Strop secures ninth save Sunday

Pedro Strop pitched his a perfect ninth inning for his ninth save in the Cubs' 5-3 win over the Mets on Sunday. He struck out two.

Fantasy Impact

Strop is racking up saves now, but he is on borrowed time as the Cubs' closer. He has good short term value, but that will evaporate the moment Craig Kimbrel rolls into town.

Pedro Strop locks down eighth save Saturday

Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out two for his eighth save in the Cubs' 2-1 win over the Dodgers on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact

Strop is serving as the Cubs' closer in the interim, but will lose this job upon Craig Kimbrel's arrival. Owners should milk Strop for all he's worth for now, but know that the value is going to be short-lived.

Pedro Strop secures one-out save Sunday

Pedro Strop got a one out save in the Cubs' 5-1 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact

Strop entered the game with two on and two out, and got Matt Carpenter to groundout for the save. This was a cheapy, but it still counts in the save column for Strop. He'll likely serve as the Cubs' closer until Craig Kimbrel is ready for big league action.
