Andre Roberson agrees to deal with the Brooklyn Nets

Free agent guard Andre Roberson has agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

Fantasy Impact

Roberson played in seven regular season games and one playoff game last year after missing over two years due to a devastating knee injury. Roberson was never the biggest offensive threat throughout his career, but that is far from what this Nets team needs. What Brooklyn needs is help on the defensive side of the ball, a forte of Roberson when he was healthy. The Nets will likely ease him back into action, but if Roberson can return to even half of his old form on the defensive side of the ball where he was averaging a steal per game, his presence can potentially do wonders for the Nets defense.

Andre Roberson out against the Wizards

Andre Roberson is out against the Wizards, as he is being rested after experiencing some foot soreness, per coach, Billy Donovan.

Fantasy Impact

Roberson has averaged 8.5 minutes of playing time, 1.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. With him being out, Abdel Nader could see increased playing time.

Andre Roberson available to play against the Celtics with no restrictions

Andre Roberson is poised to participate in his first NBA action since his injury, 180 games ago. Per coach Billy Donovan, he will be available to participate in the Thunder’s scrimmage against the Celtics with no minutes restriction.

Fantasy Impact

It has been a long road for Roberson, and to see him get to this point is nothing less than remarkable. He will look to get back into the swing of things against a heavy championship contender in the Celtics, but based on grit, toughness, and mental strength, he should be able to do just fine. Before his injury in the 2017-18 season, Roberson averaged 26.6 minutes of playing time, 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the floor. There is no precedent set to determine how he will fare for fantasy teams at this point; however, it is safe to say it would be worth having him on your radar until shown otherwise.

Andre Roberson (knee) gets in another full practice

Thunder head coach Billy Donovan told reporters Monday that G/F Andre Roberson (knee) went through a full practice again and is progressing towards a return later this month.

Fantasy Impact

Roberson hasn’t played since the 2017-18 season due to a left knee injury. Known mostly for his ability on the defensive end of the floor, Roberson’s return would be a welcome sign for a team looking to make waves in the playoffs. In his five-year NBA career with the Thunder, Roberson has averaged 4.6 points, four rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.7 blocks. Even if he’s able to suit up for Oklahoma City, he’s likely to have a minutes restriction early on as he hasn’t played competitively in two years.

Andre Roberson impresses in Thunder’s first practice in the bubble

Andre Roberson took the floor during the Thunder’s first practice in Orlando. According to coach Donovan, he was able to fully participate in practice and that he looked” really good.” Roberson’s last game was played in January 2018, where he suffered a terrible injury rupturing his patellar tendon in his left knee.

Fantasy Impact

In addition to potentially returning during unforeseen circumstances (pandemic and social unrest), Roberson is in the final year of his contract, creating extra motivation on both sides (the player and the organization) to get him on the court. During the 2017-18 season, Roberson played in 39 contests for the Thunder and averaged 26.6 minutes of playing time, 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and .9 blocks per game. Should he continue to show signs of full rehabilitation and rejoin the team, he would be able to bolster the Thunder’s defense with his defensive prowess. Roberson appears to play a conservative game with a high emphasis on efficiency, his ability to stuff the stat-sheet makes him an intriguing fantasy asset. He should certainly be on your radar for deep-league play potential; however, it could be a while before he sees meaningful minutes and re-integrates himself into the team as a source of viable production.
