Austin Rivers to stay with the Rockets

Guard Austin Rivers has decided to stay in Houston on a two-year contract with a player option on the second year. The Rockets picked up Rivers last year after the Phoenix Suns traded for him in the Trevor Ariza deal, who then subsequently waived him.

Fantasy Impact

It didn't take long for Rivers to prove his worth, as he played in 47 games with the Rockets and saw 28.6 minutes a night. Even as the rotations shortened in the postseason, he still managed to get 21.5 MPG. Rivers is part of deep guard group, including Eric Gordon, Gerald Green, and Iman Shumpert, that becomes all the more important considering Chris Paul and James Harden's combustible relationship. If Paul does force his way out of Houston, Rivers could alleviate some of his playmaking, as he averaged 16.1 points and 4.2 assists in his last full season with the Clippers.

Austin Rivers contributes 15 points on Thursday

Austin Rivers put in 15 points, three dimes, one rebound, one block and one steal in 29 minutes of game action on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Rivers went 3-for-7 from deep on the night and was able to spread his production around to all the categories. Rivers hadn't scored in double-digits in his previous nine outings so wait and see whether he's worth a look.

Austin Rivers invisible on Wednesday

Austin Rivers made his only shot last night vs the Golden State Warriors to finish with two points and one steal in 20 minutes.

Fantasy Impact

Rivers is averaging 7.25 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.08 assists, .67 steals and .33 blocks in 24.42 minutes over his last 12 games. He is not fantasy relevant.

Austin Rivers puts in 13 points in Tuesday win

Austin Rivers contributed 13 points, four boards, two dimes and a steal in 25 minutes of game action on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

Rivers has nailed at least one triple in five straight games, but he's only scored in double-digits in two of his past eight outings. He's best left on the wire.

Austin Rivers puts up dud vs Warriors

Austin Rivers scored only six points on 2-of-6 shooting, that included going 0-of-4 from three point ranges, but did make both of his free throw attempts.

Fantasy Impact

Rivers was not in the starting lineup but did play heavy minutes (34) with James Harden out, however he was unable to make an impact. If Harden does not play on Monday night vs the Atlanta Hawks, look for Rivers to have an opportunity to improve on these numbers against one of the most guard-friendly defenses in the NBA.
