The New York Knicks have selected C Daniel Oturu with the No. 33 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Knicks acquired the No. 33 overall pick via trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Oturu is strong big-man who has developed a unique skill set away from the rim. He can handle the ball and has improved his shooting from beyond the arc during his tenure at the University of Minnesota. He will now head to New York where he will operate behind Mitchell Robinson and Taj Gibson down low.
University of Minnesota C Daniel Oturu informed ESPN on his decision to forgo his NCAA eligibility and declare for the 2020 NBA Draft.
Oturu is a talented big man who will garner a lot of interest in this years draft based on his stellar sophomore performance, where he averaged 20.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 2.5 blocks in 31 games for the Golden Gophers. Oturu achieved Second-Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Defensive Team honors, along with being honored as a Third-Team All-American by Sporting News. There's still room for improvement on the offensive end but he should be able to contribute as a rookie with his ability to protect the paint. Oturu is expected to be a mid-to-late round selection on draft night.
