Marvin Bagley III 'feeling much better,' availability still uncertain

Coach Luke Walton showed a lot of optimism towards the Kings' future in a new interview. In regards to the Marvin Bagley III's health concerns, Walton said he recently spoke with him and was told that "he feels much better," but would not comment on his availability if the season were to resume.

Fantasy Impact

After being selected second overall in the 2018 draft, Bagley has struggled to stay healthy, missing 20 games his rookie season and only suiting up for 13 in 2019-2020 after suffering multiple lower body injuries. Meant to be part of a three-headed monster with teammates De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield, Bagley's injuries have kept the team from reaching their potential as they sit at 28-36. Playing in a limited fashion in some of his appearances last season, Bagley saw a dropoff in production in every statistic from his rookie campaign. In 2019-2020 he averaged 14.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, 0.8 assists, and 0.5 steals. Walton expressed a lot of optimism for the Kings' future, noting lineup changes that helped them to improve their record. It seemed obvious that Bagley's future was an integral part of the Kings' success but Richaun Holmes was able to fill his shoes when healthy. As of now the coach would not comment on the availability of Bagley if the season were to resume, saying that still has a set of protocol to overcome before being able to play. It's safe to assume that we won't see him until the 2020-2021 season. While Bagley's ceiling still holds some value in dynasty leagues, it doesn't seem like he'll do much if the season comes back this year.

Marvin Bagley III (foot) progressing well in his rehab

Marvin Bagley III (foot) is “doing great” and “feeing much better,” said Kings’ Head Coach Luke Walton.

Fantasy Impact

Bagley’s last game action was January 20th’s 118-113 loss to the Miami Heat. He suffered a left mid-foot sprain in January, and remains without a timetable. The NBA is currently shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Kings’ Head Coach Luke Walton did not provide clarity on whether Bagley would be available if the NBA season were to resume. The 21-year-old is averaging 14.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.9 blocks across 13 games this season.

Marvin Bagley III (foot) expected to return at some point this season

Marc J. Spears is reporting on Twitter that Kings forward Marvin Bagley III is expected to return to the lineup this season.

Fantasy Impact

Although it was reported today that the second-year forward is currently without a timetable for return, he is making progress in his recovery and has not been ruled out for the year. Bagley III has not played since January 20th and has only appeared in 13 contests this season but their is hope that he will return sometime before the end of the regular season. In the meantime, Richaun Holmes and Harry Giles III should continue seeing plenty of minutes at the power forward spot in Bagley's absence.

Marvin Bagley III (foot) still without timetable for return

Marvin Bagley III (foot) has no timetable for his return as he continues to rehab from a left midfoot sprain.

Fantasy Impact

Bagley is making progress in his recovery by doing on-court running and strength training but at this point, its a lost season for the second pick of the 2018 draft. Fantasy owners in dynasty formats should continue to stash Bagley as he still has some upside based off of limited playing time this season. In 13 games this season, Bagley averaged 14.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists on 47% FG shooting and 80% from the charity stripe.

Marvin Bagley III (foot) to be re-evaluated in three weeks

Marvin Bagley III aggravated his mid-foot sprain and will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Fantasy Impact

Last year's second overall pick continues to be hampered by a foot injury suffered earlier in the year and his timetable for a return has been pushed back yet again. He has only been able to suit up for 13 games this season. Nemanja Bjelica has been starting in Bagley's place and should continue to do so. Even though expectations were high before the season started, it's safe to drop Bagley at this point.
