Eligibility
Ricky Rubio is targeting a return from ACL surgery Thursday vs the Trail Blazers. He will practice on Wednesday and will be cleared to return if all goes well.
Fantasy Impact
Rubio has been out for over a full year after tearing his ACL, last playing on December 18th, 2021. He will likely be on a minutes restriction for some time, but he should eventually settle into a solid role backing up Darius Garland.
Ricky Rubio did some five-on-five work with the Cleveland Charge prior to the Charge leaving for Las Vegas.
Fantasy Impact
Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said Rubio is progressing and the team is waiting for everything to feel right. He seems to be getting closer to a return. Rubio won't be fantasy relevant when healthy as long as Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland stay healthy in the Cavs back court.
Ricky Rubio and the Cleveland Cavaliers have come to terms on a three-year, $18.4 million deal.
Fantasy Impact
Rubio returns to Cleveland after tearing his ACL with the Cavs last season. He doesn't exactly have a clear timetable, but Cleveland clearly favors his veteran leadership with an otherwise young back court. He doesn't offer too much fantasy upside at this point in his career, but the fit makes sense for him and the Cavs.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Cavaliers' PG Ricky Rubio suffered a season-ending torn ACL.
Fantasy Impact
After exiting Tuesday's game with the help of medical staff, Rubio went in for an MRI on Wednesday which later revealed a torn ACL. With Collin Sexton out for the year and Darius Garland out due to health and safety protocols, the Cavaliers look very thin at guard. Look for Dean Wade and Denzel Valentine to see big increases in their minutes.
Ricky Rubio narrowly missed a triple-double in Tuesday’s loss to the Pelicans finishing with 27 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and two blocks. Unfotunately, Rubio went down with what looked to be a pretty serious knee injury and was unable to return to the game.
Fantasy Impact
Rubio has been a major part of the Cleveland Cavaliers suprising success this season. It would be a major blow to the team if he has suffered a serious knee injury, which unfortunately looked to be a real possibility. Rubio went down in the closing minutes as he appeared to slip with his left knee giving out on a drive to the paint. He was in obvious pain and grabbed at his knee immediately, subsequently not being able to put any weight on it as teammates had to help him to the locker room. Fantasy managers will have to hope his MRI comes back clean, but this one didn’t look good. With Collin Sexton (knee) already out for the season and Darius Garland (COVID-19) currently in the protocols, the Cavs are running thin at backcourt options.
