Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is ready for his chance to make a mark in July
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is focused on his chance to make a mark as the NBA restart draws near. In discussing the opportunity in relation to the absence of key team members (Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Wilson Chandler, Nic Claxton, and Spencer Dinwiddie (questionable)), he said, “It’s huge for us, huge for me…obviously, we’re going to miss them. But as we say this year and as it’s always been, it’s next man up. You have to stay ready and be ready to play…I’m sure they’ll support us, and we’ll try and do the best job we can.
Despite being waived in the preseason and joining the Nets as a two-way having to prove himself on a 10-day contract, Luwawu-Cabarrot has a prime opportunity to be a contributing factor in the rotation come later this month. In the last five games leading up to the shut-down, he was enjoying some of his best play of the year. Across those contests, he averaged 27 minutes of playing time, 11.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Luwawu-Cabarrot is preparing for all scenarios saying, “I guess now I’m going to have to play the four or the five at some point…my role [is] going to stay the same: I’m just going to help more in the paint and stay out there with [Jarrett Allen], sometimes have to do the dirty job they do.” With all the opportunity opening on the Nets, the team should be a good source of cheap value. Overall, Luwawu-Cabarrot is not an automatic bet for production, so taking a wait-and-see approach is ideal; however, he should be a solid pick-up for deep-league play.
