Seth DeValve shines in Spring Practice

by Mark Leipold | Tue, Jul 18th 10:58am EDT

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot said second-year TE Seth DeValve "jumped out in spring practices as one of the most improved players from 2016." (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

Fantasy Impact:

Cabot suggested that the Browns could run "plenty" of two-TE sets this year, after drafting David Njoku at #29 overall by trading back up into the first round. Njoku is incredibly athletic and will create matchup problems for defenses, so if he is able to pick up the TE position quickly, he could limit DeValve's upside, and vice versa. I'm still taking Njoku over DeValve even in redraft, as the Browns traded back into the first round and then released veteran Gary Barnidge shortly after, which indicates to me that they intend to use Njoku. In Dynasty formats, Njoku is a late first-round rookie pick and my #2 TE in the rookie class for Dynasty behind Howard, and slightly ahead of Evan Engram. For now, though, DeValve is not on my redraft radar even as a late flier. However, if similar reports come out of training camp and preseason, DeValve could be worth monitoring, as someone in the Browns offense will see volume and have value.
