Because he was transition tagged, RB Kenyan Drake and the Arizona Cardinals have until July 22 to strike a long-term extension, although one is not imminent according to sources. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Drake has signed his transition tag, which will pay him $8.4M in 2020. Unlike other players that are on the franchise tag that have until today, July 15 to strike a deal on a long-term contract, Drake gets an extra week due to the transition tag. After July 22, the Cardinals have exclusive negotiating rights through Week 10 of the regular season. Drake figures to be a big part of Kliff Kingsbury’s offense this year and should be considered a top-10 running back this season. His dynasty value however hangs on receiving a multi-year deal from the Cardinals.
